Bottle Docker

Aug 1, 2010

Bottle Docker is a personal bottle beverage carrier, and although it may not be the first, it is one of the most innovative. What makes Bottle Docker different is that it can slip right onto the waist, without necessarily requiring a belt or belt loop to work. It also folds flat, so it can be put in your pocket. There's a hole at the bottom of the product that allows you to turn the whole thing upside down and connect it with an S-binder to a gym bag or a belt loop, if desired. The company even sells the S-binders to go with it. Wholesale Bottle Cap

"What we were looking for was a way to create a product that could do three things," says co-founder Steve Chorazewitz. "We wanted it to be able to be hung from a purse or a backpack, to fold nice and snug for easy storage, and also to carry your beverage handily and sturdily. There was an original product years ago, and we looked all over the place for them, but we couldn't find a patent on it or anything else. We eventually sought the help of a couple of patent attorneys to go through what we could do, and how we could go about putting them out there."

Chorazewitz' company made some adjustments to the original product. For example, the hole on the bottom was added, and it was changed to the recognizable bottle shape. This allowed the company to obtain a utility patent, as well as the trademark. The original ones were known to eventually break, so the newly revised item was strengthened to be more durable. Refinements were made to the actual clip area, to hold the newer, more eco-friendly bottles that are smaller around the neck.

The item can be customized with corporate logos. It wholesales for $3 for orders up to $400, and then drops to $2.85 and $2.75 for larger quantities. They're sold in blocks of 24, and that's the minimum order for pieces with the original Bottle Docker logo. For a corporate logo, there is a minimum order of 250, at $3.50 apiece. Suggested retail is $5, but Chorazewitz has seen buyers get more. "A lot of people put a bottle of water or some type of beverage with it, and are able to do a little bit better," he says. "We know that some schools and fundraiser events have gone as high as $7 with the bottle of water in it. We do have a display container available as well."
