Gifts with Presence

Dec 1, 2012

Kheops International is a business propelled by genuine passion for the company's products. Nestled in the rural North Country of New Hampshire, the company dedicates itself to meaningful items that are off the beaten path in terms of design and function, and are intended to inspire end customers with their high quality and unusual characteristics. For sellers, Kheops International's merchandise serves to generate profits and support a firm that gives back to its community. With products numbering in the thousands, including symbolic jewelry, lamps, mortar and pestles, journals and musical instruments, Kheops has established itself as a leading source of soulful wares.

Since its early days selling pieces crafted by a glass artist, Kheops International has come a long way and is now entering its 19th year with a thorough knowledge of its customers' needs and a keen understanding of the gift industry. "This year has been very good to us, regardless of what people say about the economy," says Mylene Miron, web and advertising manager. "Much of this is due to the fact that we continue to add more unique products." The latest addition to its online catalog is a selection of decorative cotton wall tapestries, made by artists in India and measuring about 52" by 76". Custom made for Kheops, the handcrafted tapestries feature abstract designs, Om symbols and mythical creatures, and make vibrant tablecloths, curtains or blankets. "It is a high quality product," Miron points out. "Most tapestries that you see are dyed using a three-color process, but ours are done using a 16-color process." The result is a product with more color depth than most other tapestries on the market, she remarks. Buyers may contact their local representative for detailed pricing information.

In the coming year, the wholesaler is planning for a new line of jewelry and a fresh group of statues for its catalog. "In total, we expect to add between 300 and 400 new products for 2013," Miron reveals. "In the monthly online newsletter, Kheops SHARE, where we speak about the celebrations of the religions for which we carry items, we will discuss new products if they relate to the celebrations of each month."

During the month of December, Kheops International offers free shipping or three-day shipping for west coast customers that place orders totaling more than $500. "That promotion is extremely popular around the holidays, especially when a customer has a need for a last minute order," Miron continues. The minimum order is $150 for new buyers and $125 for subsequent orders. "Retailers can expect to make about 75 percent profit on all of our products," she adds. Lowering the minimum order amount and paying close attention to the quality of the firm's customer service are factors to which Miron attributes this year's successes. The company takes "going the extra mile" as a literal goal, maintaining a force of representatives on the road to ensure that the company sustains solid contact with all of its customers. "They bring samples to your door so that you can see, feel and smell the product prior to buying," Miron shares.

Ever devoted to charity and sustainability, no year at Kheops would be complete without contributions to grassroots organizations and to the environment. "When you live in Colebrook, NH, you are very aware that it is a small town," Miron explains. "So we try to help the community. We operated a summer lunch program for children in the area, and now we are working on ways to offer extra help to area families around the holidays. We try to make sure people have food through winter, because those months are really hard for us here in the North Country." Kheops International has a number of other charity programs in the works for 2013, and will continue conducting business in the most environmentally friendly ways possible. The company recycles, uses solar panels and relies on energy efficient appliances. Kheops continues to move forward with renewed energy, unwavering passion for its work, and an inventory of items that mean sure sales.
