Sir Markadoo, the owner of Heavenly Body Products, is shifting a portion of his business to large bulk shipments that give resellers the opportunity for significant markups. It's very much in keeping with, "Let's Talk Business," a live radio show he hosts every Tuesday night from 9 to 10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

The company's body oils are now offered in 25 lb. drums. Prices vary, depending on the fragrance, but he says 90 percent of the line sells in this drum offer for between $15 per lb. and $17 per lb. His company regularly wholesales them for between $25 and $30 per lb. Thus, the new deal gives the distributor or reseller a high markup, even if the product is sold at a discount.

The air freshener/burning oil from Heavenly Body Products is now offered in 35 to 40 lb. drums. Typically this sells wholesale for $18 per lb., and for $14 per lb. on a 10 lb. order. Under the supersize plan, the wholesale is about $12 per lb., depending on fragrance.

This product calls for a cutting solution, which the company now sells for $2 per lb. in a 40 lb. pail. "Add $12 per lb. for the oil to $2 for the cutting agent, and then cut the $14 in half, because the cutting agent doubles the amount of product," Sir Markadoo explains. "The result is that our customer is obtaining finished product for $7 per lb."

The bargains of supersizing also extend to containers. One ounce plastic bottles with a fingertip sprayer are now offered in case lots of between 1,500 and 1,700 units. Typically, these wholesaled for $7 a dozen, or 58 cents a unit. By the case, however, that cost is cut to just 30 cents each.

Similar savings are available on one third ounce roll-on bottles for oils. They are offered at $175 for one case of 864 units. On buys of five cases or more, the case price is just $125.

Oil burners from Heavenly Body Products generally wholesale for $2 each in a case of 48 units. Now, on orders for a pallet of 40 cases, the price drops to $1 a unit. The suggested retail is $8 a unit.

Gift bags also come at prices that allow resellers to put packages of products together to not only distinguish themselves from competitors, but also gain hefty margins. Typically, the company wholesales these for $18 a dozen. Now, when ordered by the case, which contains 500 bags, the wholesale cost drops to 80 cents a unit.
