American Variety Merchandise Expo, a new, all wholesale general and variety merchandise trade show, debuts May 31 through June 2 at the Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, NJ. It is founded by Al Russel, who has years of experience in trade show management. "The east coast has been neglected as far as trade shows go," says Russel, "and we felt there was a need to revitalize opportunities for exhibitors and buyers alike, along the east coast."

"There is a need for a major east coast show, and this is an ideal location. It's very accessible from the Newark, JFK and LaGuardia airports and by bus and train service all along the east coast," he notes. "Furthermore, it's just five miles from Times Square, and mass transit leaves from Manhattan every few minutes," says Russel. "Add to its easy access, its costs, which represent a lower investment in all ways than shows in New York City," he points out. "There is free parking. The costs are lower for both exhibitors and buyers, and we have negotiated special rates at the nearby hotels, which are already significantly less expensive than in New York. When it comes to shopping, restaurants and other activities, these amenities are here in abundance," he adds.

As a stipulation of exhibiting, every exhibitor is required to offer exclusive show specials. "Exposure to these thousands of show specials can ensure that buyers will be able to cover their investment in attending the show," Russel says. Buyer registration is free of charge with proof that they are a retailer. "It's strictly trade," Russel reiterates. "The hundreds of exhibitors come from all over the country, and they include well known suppliers, along with some that have never shown before. This ensures buyers of exposure to the latest popular products."

American Variety Merchandise Expo will encompass a huge range of categories. Among them are electronics, dollar store items, apparel, fashion accessories, health and beauty aids, handbags, sunglasses, hardware and housewares, jewelry and closeouts.

The show hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday and Monday, May 31 and June 1, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2. A limited number of exhibit spaces are still available.

Buyers can register by phone or online, and the website also allows retailers and exhibitors to register at hotels online.
