After 12 years in business, Discount Wholesale in Chester Springs, PA continues to expand its offerings of closeouts. It sells products for between 50 and 90 percent below wholesale. "Demand and the availability of closeouts has increased significantly," says Steve Galiffa, owner.

His company has never stopped scouring for items that give its customers quick sell through at healthy margins of profit. In early September, for example, it acquired a huge assortment of approximately 30,000 Halloween costumes. Ever since, it has been gearing up to obtain holiday merchandise.

In the area of home décor, Galiffa says the company has candles, holiday tabletop décor, wreaths and a wealth of gift items.

While health and beauty aids was and remains a mainstay of its merchandise, the company also carries cosmetics, hair care, cleaning products, general merchandise, school supplies and home décor.

Groceries are a new addition, Galiffa says. "Consumables, including groceries, cosmetics, HBA and cleaning supplies, are always in demand and always perform well for our retailer customers."

Discount Wholesale sells name brand mixed assortment of groceries by as little as a skid, up to multiple truckloads. Other products are sold by the box, making it easy for smaller retailers to buy, and by the truckload or multiple truckloads for larger chains.

Detailed information is available on the company's website, and Discount Wholesale alerts customers by email when new merchandise arrives and lets them know when it is cutting a special deal to clear out inventory. "We describe closeouts to at T," Galiffa says, "because we want to make sure our customers understand exactly what they're buying."

The internet is among the factors that has changed business "for the better," in the company's history, he says. While some things change, others do not. "We're still a hands on business, and we work closely with our customers," he says. In addition, Discount Wholesale owns the goods it sells.

The company operates from a 45,000 square foot warehouse and generally ships the next day. Galiffa says the company does more than 10 times the business it did when it opened, and he's now looking for a larger warehouse in order to keep up with growth.
