Chat Software Offers E-Tailers a Chance to Close The Deal

Dec 1, 2010

For retailers the world over, looky-loos are a frustrating problem, but at least brick-and-mortar retailers can chat with browsers who are "just looking," and maybe even convert them into paying customers. Now e-tailers can do something very similar, thanks to a new software product called "Chat&," from M. Fried Store Fixtures.

"We designed the tool for ecommerce. It's an engagement and conversion tool," says Chat& director of business operations Daniel Lebor. Using this product, shoppers click on a banner which launches with no download into a video chat between the customer service rep and the client. The product includes screen sharing, which lets the e-retailer create a virtual showroom. Chat can continue while looking at the Web page.

"It pays for itself in days, if not hours," says Lebor. "It's really an engagement tool that increases conversion rates. You can help your customer face to face, they can describe what they're looking for, and you can take them right to it. We really think that will help lead customers to the checkout." As Lebor describes Chat&, his enthusiasm is clear, "We believe it's the future of ecommerce," he says. There are two versions of the product. A version with just the video chat alone costs $49.99. The deluxe model is $99.99 a month. "We offer 30 days free so you can test it out," Lebor says.
