Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Central:
Help Save the Planet!

Recycling is an activity that helps to save the planet. In its most basic form, recycling can be looked at as taking materials out of discarded and older materials for the purpose of creating brand new products out of them. Doing something as small as recycling a can of soda after one has finished with it goes a long way toward saving the planet’s resources. Recycling can be done at home, or it can even be done in school because of how little effort it takes. Future generations of kids will also benefit from inheriting a planet that is less polluted.

Recycling Loop?

Kids should be familiar with something called the recycling loop. The recycling loop is a logo that almost every kid has seen at some point or another. It consists of three arrows that move in a clockwise fashion. While there are other representations of the symbol, the aforementioned description is its most common kind. This symbol shows three arrows because each arrow stands for a step in the process of recycling.

The first step in the process of recycling involves the collection of materials that are recyclable, usually through curbside collection programs or other kinds of collection programs. The second step in the process of recycling is then turning the old materials into new products. The third and final step in the process of recycling happens in stores. When one buys the new products that were created out of the old materials that were recycled, one is actually buying stuff that just would have been thrown away and polluting the Earth.

Need to Recycle

There is a real need to recycle in the world. There are a lot of benefits that exist from recycling old stuff that just would have been thrown away anyways. For example, recycling saves people money because creating new stuff out of old stuff costs less money. Recycling also saves energy, and it preserves a good amount of the natural resources of the Earth, which, in turn, helps out the environment.

Space is saved in landfills, too, thanks to recycling. When one recycles, one prevents the old stuff from ending up in a landfill where it will just damage the environment. Less pollution is another benefit of recycling because fewer materials are used to create new materials. Natural resources are other substances that are saved by recycling, since old materials from things no longer used are not just thrown away.

Recycling Details

Kids can start recycling by doing only a few, simple things differently. First, kids can just separate materials that are recyclable from other materials that are garbage. The materials that become separated from recyclable materials just get collected by other types of collection programs. Programs for recycling come in a couple of formats. They can either be programs that the government operates or just programs that ideological organizations who are dedicated to the environment operate. After being processed, the materials that were collected are then sold to the manufacturers, who use them for raw materials in new products.

Materials to Recycle

There are numerous types of materials that kids can seek out for recycling purposes. Many people have asked what specific kinds of materials can be recycled. In a broad sense, the types of materials that can be recycled with no problem are aluminum cans, cardboard, glass, paper, many types of metals, and steel cans. Even plastic bottles have the capability to be recycled and turned into new products. A few examples of the new products that can be created from recycled materials are the steel found in the frames of skyscrapers, the equipment for playgrounds, the bottles for drinking water, and even bottles that are used to hold food or other household foodstuffs.

It does not take much energy, effort or time to make a commitment to recycling, especially knowing that recycling can have such positive impacts on the planet. Recycling does not take much, only the effort to separate materials that are recyclable from materials that are not recyclable. After that, setting out the separated materials for the various collection programs to pick up is the only other requirement in any recycling effort. Besides being easy to do, recycling also helps out the youngsters of future generations, who get to inherit an Earth that is a little bit less polluted. Kids should ask their parents to show them how to recycle.
