Helmut Eckert's Camaro
www.musclev8.freeservers.com |
A noticable change in the sheetmetal took place in 1969 to give the Camaro a wider look. The grille was recessed further into the car to give it a meaner look. Contoured flares that started at the wheel openings and streaked back towards the door in the front and towards the rear fender in the back were added to the sheetmetal.
The SS package now included a slightly different hood style with two chromed hood ornaments that now had simulated carburator stacks. Also new for 69 on the SS and Z-28 was a cowl induction hood originally designed for the Trans Am series races. When the car was floored a solenoid was triggered to open a door which let cool air from the base of the windshield into the carburator. This hood visually and audibly (The Rrrrrrrrrr of the 4 barrel carb) gave the Super Sport a presence that is unforgettable.
