Big Mini Plants

Aug 1, 2007

VMK INNOVATIONS offers fifteen different varieties of miniature sized real plants in tiny containers. After two to three years, after consuming the gel medium in the container, they can be removed and planted, growing to reach normal size.

The technology for this product relies on the use of a tissue culture from labs where plants are mass produced. These miniatures are taken from a very small cellular particle of the mother plant and transferred into a medium with a variety of nutrients that keep them healthy, while preventing fast growth.

VMK offers the plants in a clear plastic, hermetically sealed container, about four inches high and two inches in diameter, and allows them to grow about a half inch a year. Once the gel in the container is consumed, the container can be cracked open cleanly and easily.

Instructions on the VMK website tell how to replant and grow the plant to maturity. The different varieties include blooming plants and a seedling tree, which at maturity is 100 feet tall. Among the blooming varieties are roses, orchids, anthurium and celosia. Additional varieties, including a pitcher plant, are being added.

Depending on quantity and variety, the wholesale price is between $5 and $10 a unit, and suggested retail is $15 to $20. The minimum order is $200 to $300.
