Salco Launches Ezwholesaler.com

Apr 1, 2008

Expansion of product categories and rapid growth has prompted Salco Distributors to launch the ezwholesaler.com website. Salco's other long running site is ezdropshipper.com. Salco, based in Largo, FL, began in 1993 by wholesaling As Seen On TV products.

By setting up ezwholesaler.com, dedicated to the company's retailer clientele, owner Sal Maggio says the company can offer this segment a larger product selection. "We can carry a company's entire product line, and we've got a special arrangement with our vendors under which they'll sell in caseload quantities and still ship direct to our customer. That gives our retailer customer better pricing," he explains, "because there's no middle man."

The company continues to regularly carry between 250 to 300 As Seen on TV products, including many of the all time best sellers, according to Maggio. They include Space Bags, which Maggio says have been doing well, "forever;" the Bean exercise aid; Blu-Blocker sunglasses and the Miracle Blade 11 piece knife set.

New items in this category arrive all the time. Typically, they wholesale for $13 and sell retail for $20.

The company has recently added a number of other high demand product categories. "We will continue to add more," Maggio says, "but we're expanding carefully. We need to make sure that our customers can make healthy margins on the products."

Among the recent additions are security and defense products, such as stun guns and the Sabre brand pepper spray, which routinely provide retail margins of 35 to 50 percent. Some discounts on closeouts in the category are also available.

Gift baskets have also been added, and they include fruit baskets, candy selections, meat and cheese, and stuffed animals. "These always do well," Maggio says, "because there is always a season in which they are popular and in demand." Upcoming, Mother's Day is worth mentioning.

Exercise equipment and accessories are now on hand. They include machines, such as inversion tables, mats, balls, weights and a selection of sporting goods and athletic equipment.

In addition, Salco now supplies general merchandise. "This is primarily targeted to dollar stores," Maggio says, "They include good deals that give high margins."

Salco has no fixed minimum, but generally products are sold by the case. Depending on the product, a case can contain from six to 200 units. Membership on the Salco wholesale sites is free. "Retailers can take a premium membership for added discounts," Maggio says, "but that's not necessary for most of our customers."

"We cater to two segments: etailers and independent retailers." Drop shipping is of special advantage to the former, although it is also available to retailers.

Retailer customers can not only order online, they may also obtain their order history and track shipments.
