Since its launch in 1985, SJT Enterprises has introduced hundreds of novelty and giftware items. Dogs are featured on many of the company’s products, which include assorted greeting cards, signs and magnets. “By far our best sellers are products with specific dog breeds,” says owner Tim Smith. “That’s because even during tough economic times, consumers will buy something with their dog on it.”
SJT Enterprises’ newest introduction to its line of dog merchandise is the 3D magnetic bookmark. “It can be a fridge magnet or a bookmark,” says Smith, who designed the product. It is available with 24 of the most common dog breeds. “We have the largest printing company in the U.S. make them for us. You can see the 3D movement at www.magneticbookmarks.com,” Smith adds, and notes, “You can have the greatest artwork, but you have to see them move to really get it.”
Suggested retail for the bookmark is $4.99 and the wholesale price is $2.25. “We have an acrylic counter display, a spinner that holds 144 pieces, or six of each of the 24 breeds. The wholesale price for 144 pieces is $324, and a spinner is included with orders for a full display,” Smith explains. Retailers who mention Independent Retailer when they order a full display also receive free shipping, he adds. SJT Enterprises’ minimum order is $100 of combined products.
The company launched the 3D magnetic bookmarks about a month ago, and sales are exceeding expectations. “In fact,” Smith says, “we’re out of displays because they sold faster than I thought they would. From what I’m hearing sell-through wise at store level, they’re doing very well. The artwork we start with is very good and the bookmarks are made here in the USA.”
Smith says his, “Made in the USA,” policy may be one of the reasons SJT Enterprises is successful. Another reason is, “the excellent customer service we provide. According to our customers, we are second to none. We started our business in the spare bedroom of a house, and now we occupy 7,000 square feet between warehouse and office,” Smith explains. “If we didn’t offer quality products and great customer service, that wouldn’t have been possible.”
