Sears Holding Corporation has instituted a number of new initiatives. Chief among them is an innovative service that crosses the company's Internet and brick and mortar shopping channels.
It has expanded its "Ready in 5" program. This allows online shoppers to pick up orders, without leaving their car, within five minutes of arriving at the store.
Thousands of items on Sears.com are marked with the Ready in 5 icon. According to the program, customers buying these products are guaranteed quick pick up when they collect their online orders at the nearest Sears location.
The Sears.com website has added a gift finder feature designed to help shoppers choose gifts according to personality type and personal interests, in addition to product category and price range. The website also contains an improved wish list capability.
Sears has unveiled a new store format at locations in and around Cincinnati, which is a test that could roll out nationwide. It separates home related products and accessories, including tools for do it yourselfers, into room related areas.
Sears has also submitted a bid to buy the Restoration Hardware retail chain.
