Based on, "Small Kitchen Appliances in the U.S.," a new report from SBI, a division of MarketResearch.com, the market supply for everything from single brew coffee makers and juice extractors to panini and pizza makers is fueling growth in this category. It says sales of small kitchen appliances was relatively stable since 2001, but reached to nearly $2.5 billion in 2005.
The market is primarily dependent on low priced imports, which have been increasing steadily since 2001 to account for more than half of the 2005 supply in terms of value. Electromechanical appliances, including blenders, mixers, food processors and juice extractors among others, accounted for almost two thirds of the value of small kitchen appliance imports in 2005.
Automatic drip coffee makers, however, continue to be the number one small kitchen appliance purchased annually by U.S. households, while toasters and slow cookers were among the top five purchases.
"Manufacturers of small appliances have been quick to respond to consumer demands for better looking appliances with enhanced functionality," says Tatjana Meerman, managing editor of SBI. "Today's time crunched homeowner is willing to spend more on appliances to match their new or remodeled homes. This has impacted the market greatly and will continue to be a positive growth factor for the next several years," she concludes.
